We had our Board retreat on Saturday, 19 May, at the Gynther’s Shed. We started with breakfast and then Jim Woodrow led us through a devotion looking at Jeremiah 29:11-14, John 8:28, John 5:19 and Romans 14:23. It was clear from these verses that God has a plan for Rivers and our job is to discover what it is, not make up our own. He wants to hear from us and to have us seek him wholeheartedly and not rely just on our experience. Just as Jesus spoke only the words God gave him, and did only the actions God told him to do, we need to do the same.

Welcome to a new month in the life of Rivers Baptist Church. There seems to be a constant state of change happening here at Rivers over the past months. There have also been changes made to the office staff. The Board has appointed Jim Gailer to the position of Church Administrator, responsible for the administrative function of Rivers Baptist Church, including staff management. He will report direct to the Board/Church Leadership Team. Initially he will be working two days per week as a volunteer, progressing to four or five days per week as the need arises. This will free our pastors to concentrate on pastoral care and teaching.

TO BE HELD AT 2 PM ON 17 SEPTEMBER 2006
A week ago, 747 had a speaker from Brisbane City Church, Andrew Carter. As any 747 leader will attest, God has been doing amazing things all year in that ministry. That night, God moved in such a powerful way that 747 ran out of the church’s stock of bibles.
A typical night at 747 has three one-hour parts: two ‘hang out’ times at the beginning and end of the night, where the youth (ages 12–18) can play volleyball, skateboard, use the PlayStations or get into several other activities; and the worship time, very much a youth-focused church service.
‘It’s usually pretty noisy when the speaker comes on. It can be hard to keep the kids’ attention. But this guy had them with his first sentence and talked for 40 minutes,’ says Corey Gieskens, co-ordinator of 747.

It’s easy! If you are a ministry leader at Rivers, you just need to email Rebecca Gollan with your article.
See this as your opportunity to share with the wider Rivers community your vision, upcoming events or reflections on what you’re involved in.
Articles can be of any length, although those that are no more than 250 words are viewed more favourably. Provide your article as the main body of an email or as a Microsoft Word attachment. At this stage, handwritten submissions won’t be considered — unless you’re able to help type them up!
